Where did you get her?
I wandered into a Pet Store at the Mall when I saw her and she wagged her tail and barked at me it was all over! She had me at woof!
Why did you name her as such?
I named her Cricket because she bounced around like a Cricket. She was so spunky and loaded with personality. Not shaky or nippy like some Chihuahua's can be.
Why did you decide to get a pet? And why her in particular?
I had ALWAYS wanted a Chihuahua but never found one that had the type of temperament I was looking for. I already had a dog at home a miniature Pincher named Tinkerbell. I love her very much and was worried how I would be when I eventually would loose her hence my back up plan was my Cricket who stole my heart that day.
What was she like? Describe her personality.
Positively adorable and might I add a VERY beautiful apple head toy Chihuahua all of 2.5 pounds when I first adopted her. She was affectionate and never bit a stranger when she would meet them. She was affectionate with the grandchildren and would love to sleep in between my husband and I every night. She was energetic and not afraid of anything. She had the illusion that she was a very big dog.
What adjectives would you use to describe her?
Beautiful inside and out. Affectionate and Energetic. Lovable and Independent. Feisty yet she could lay in my lap for hours. She was a fighter especially when she was diagnosed with two auto immune diseases after her annual re-vaccination called GME (Granulomatous Meningoencephalitis) and NME (Narcotizing Meningoencephalitis) which ultimately took her life prematurely. You can read her story of her fight for life with www.doghealthnews.com and www.ilovemychi.com
Can you share a funny moments with her?
She would sleep on my shoulders in my van while the hubby was driving. She would herd the other dogs by barking at them when it was time to do her business outside. She would growl at Tinkerbell and bark at her if she even got remotely close to her food dish. Watching her put her two paws on Ginger (boxer/pit mix) whom she regarded as her mother to wash her underbelly, neck and ears. She had a resonating snore for such a little dog who was all of 5 pounds dripping wet when fully grown.
Can you share touching moments with her?
Riding with her in my bike sitting in the basket in our neighborhood. Holding her in the bathtub helping her to exercise. Helping her learn how to walk in her quad doggy walker that the husband made for her since she could no longer walk on our tile floors after her delayed diagnosis of GME & NME. Helping her up and down the patio stairs to help her learn how to walk again since she acquired Ataxia from the delayed diagnosis by our so called "educated vets".
Did she do any tricks?
None whatsoever as she was a complete lap dog when she wasn't sleeping with us, eating or doing her business outside.
Was she your first pet?
No not at all. There have been a handful of dogs before her.
Was she adopted, found, adopted or bought?
She was purchased at a local pet store but I adopted her in my heart as my wee little girl. After all the difference between a child and a dog are two extra legs.
Did she have pet siblings or other animals that she bonded with?
Ginger her adopted boxer/pit mom. They adored each other. And Ginger would protect her, watch her, sleep with her, guard her, and wash her up one side and down the other. I never saw two dogs who loved each other like they did. Cricket and Tinkerbell fought over my attentions so obviously they refused to bond with each other.
What do you miss about her?
I miss her bark and how she snuggled with us at night in our bed and her chasing after squirrels in our back yard. I miss taking her camping and walking with her around our lake and her sitting on my lap every evening and on weekends. I miss how she would give Tinkerbell guff if I took her on a ride in the car and she would come home and growl at her as if she was saying, "Ha mommy took me out and not you". She was irreplaceable, unique and a remarkable little fighter of this heartbreaking life threatening and debilitating immune mediated disease of the central nervous system. She left paw prints on my heart as you can tell from her memorial video on this site.
