Last February my oldest guinea pig, PC passed away. Among the three cavies, she was my favorite because she was friendly, and it was evident that she really liked being held and being close to me. Whenever my friends came for a visit, she was the only one that would go to edge of their enclosure to greet them.
About a month passed, I decided that I wanted to adopt another American guinea pig. I saw an ad on Craigslist for nine 6-week old pups (baby guinea pigs). There were four females available and I would have options. When I decided to respond to the ad, I checked again and there was a new post for a five-month old guinea pig with ruby eyes. I wanted a lilac colored one too, and something about her photo that made me want to adopt her instead. So I setup to pick her up.
As I put her in her new home, she gradually sniffed around and even came up to me. I noticed that she is not skittish. I petted her back and she started to purr. There was no adjustment period at all, she trusted me right away. Whenever I would walk into the room she looks at me or goes to the edge of the enclosure. Like PC, she also has that same white stripes from her nose to the top of her head. That's why I named her Rogue, after the X-men heroine. I realized she is a lot like PC! Could it be that Rogue is PC's reincarnation?
It's comforting that Rogue is a lot similar to PC. I am aware that they are a little different, but their personalities are so close. I have looked at several other ads for guinea pigs and it was Rogue's ad that really spoke to me. Rogue was perfect to take PC's place. Sometimes, life has its way of balancing itself out.
She got along with PS3 and not so much with Java. Java did not like Rogue at all, she bit her ear and I had to separate them for a couple of weeks. I added a second floor to their enclosure and it was then that they were able to live together.
A year later, PS3 passed away and I noticed Java and Rogue got a long a little better. But it is not until my partner and I got Dalek that I was surprised to find out that Java and Rogue have become best friends. They cuddled and slept next to each other often.
We only had Rogue for over two years, but she gave us plenty of happy moments and love. She was very sweet, we are glad to have shared her life to the end. She was family and she mattered.
There was a time when she became a gluton and started eating so much. She would grab food of her cage mates.
