Roxy was one of those dogs who was more like a human than a dog.
She knew exactly how you were feeling by just looking at her and was ready to warm your heart with her smile and her spins. She was cuddly, soft, and ever-so fluffy (so fluffy I'm gunna die!)!!! She loved to chase squirrels and attempt to make friends with every cat she encountered. She never met a human that didn't love her.
She always smelled more like a blueberry muffin than a dog. She would sleep until noon and sometimes Jed & I swore she was part camel because she could hold her pee-pee for hours! She "pitter-pattered" when she pooed and shamed herself when she had gotten into the trash by putting herself in her crate. She wasn't fond of wearing clothes and decided she preferred to go "au natural" most days. She was always up for adventure - and that was a must living with Jed and I!
She moved with us from Raleigh, NC to Fort Wayne, IN to Augusta, GA and finally to Aix-en-Provence, France. Along the way, we travelled to more places than I bet any other dog has ever travelled! She was a true globe-trotter!
Over the years, she journeyed with us by boat, plane, car and train! She climbed many a mountain and hiked many a hike with us, where she always insisted on being the leader of the pack. She came along with us on ferries & boats all over the world, from the shores of NC to the coast of Italy.
She got her wings by flying on planes to and from the states. She went kayaking, climbed to the top of a lighthouse, frolicked through lavender fields in the south of France, and swam in the Mediterranean sea (although we all know it was more of a quick dip as she didn't like water very much).
She visited Lago de Como and helped us search for George Clooney's house. She enjoyed fondue INSIDE a restaurant with us in Switzerland (and she was definitely not the only dog in the restaurant- they are very dog friendly there)! She took a trip with us through Tuscany and even saw the leaning tower of Pisa!
No matter the day, time, weather or country, one thing was certain - Roxy was always ready to take on the day with a smile and a spin! She'd pose happily for each photo we took and wait patiently for us to catch up to her when she ran ahead.
Roxy was indeed our first baby. We knew from the moment we first saw her at that shelter in the spring of 2008 in Raleigh, NC spinning around and around in circles, that it was love at first sight. She has had many nicknames through the years such as Baby Bunny, Foxy Roxy, Spins, DJ, Rox-Box, and Rox-a-Dumplin' just to name a few!
Roxy will always be in our hearts and with us deep in our souls. We will remember her fondly each time we see a squirrel, smell bacon (or country ham!) cooking, find un-eaten crumbs on the floor, cuddle with a fluffy pillow or see a white cotton ball! She will always be with us and we are happy to know she is now at peace.
One day we will meet you over the rainbow bridge sweet Roxy, we love you so much and you will never, ever be forgotten!
She used to eat the garbage and then "shame herself" by going to her crate as soon as she saw you.
She did a mean mannequin challenge.
She wouldn't move a muscle if you put her in any clothes.
She would "pitter patter" and do the "Charlie Chaplan" anytime she had to poo.
She would spin around in an exact amount of circles before laying down.
She would judge you if you ate ice cream in the middle of the night.
Once, she got attacked by a duck - no harm came to her or the duck fortunately.
She would cuddle with us on the couch at night.
She used to sleep in our bed with us, under the sheets.
She would get so excited to see us after we had been gone on a long trip.
She remembered people from her past, including my parents.
She never truly bonded with Luke, but they had their moments of understanding one another.
