Farewell to our beloved Jordan. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, November 29, 2020. Jordan came to us as a Christmas gift in December of 2003. We found him through the Penny Pincher newspaper, and the moment I saw him playing with his brothers and sisters, I knew I had to have him. I told his Breeder that my husband would be back to get him, and shortly after that, my husband and his co-worker brought him to me on a delivery truck from his job. That was the start of our life with our best companion. After a few days of observing him, we tried to come up with a name that best suited him. Because he was always jumping up high on things, my husband named him Jordan, with Michael “Air” Jordan in mind. That is how he got the name Jordan. He jumped on the sofa, jumped up and down on our high bed, jumped up at doorknobs, wherever he could, he jumped.
Jordan was such an amazing dog. He was a Miniature Pinscher aka "min-pin" and (King of Toys). He truly brought so much joy and excitement into our world every day. He was one of a kind, and he had a funny way of letting us know what he liked and did not like, whether it was food or something we did to annoy him. He turned his nose away from certain dog foods we tried until we found the brand he liked, and whenever we brought out the ironing board to iron our clothes, he barked and barked, and barked until he could not. He hated the ironing board. Yes, we had a hard time ironing clothes. LOL And as much as we wanted to hold Jordan in our lap or cuddle, he would not do it. I guess getting cuddly was not his thing. LOL In spite of that, he was still our best companion. His personality was his own – stubborn, energetic, and loveable, all at the same time. We could not have asked for a better pet companion.
Just as there were things he did not like, there were many things he did like. His favorite table foods were bacon and Cheerios. He went crazy from the smell of bacon – he loved smoked and turkey bacon, and he loved eating a bowl of Cheerios in the mornings. He would eat the Cheerios before he would eat his dog food. His favorite snacks were popcorn and peanuts. I could not enjoy a bowl of popcorn on my own. He would stare until he got some. He loved peanuts, too, and liked for me to throw them to him so he could catch them. Jordan also loved taking pictures. He was photogenic or did not mind posing for the camera. He got a photoshoot for most of his birthdays. We looked forward to his birthdays, so we could take his pictures.
Jordan was small in stature, had a thin coat of hair and he was cold natured. He was always hiding under his favorite blanket or anything that would keep him warm. There was one time he could not wait for his blanket to come out of the dryer. He loved getting wrapped up in warm blankets all year long. Jordan was small in size, but he was our biggest HERO.
A few months ago, Jordan was diagnosed with dementia by his Veterinarian. We were told to let him live his best life, so we were preparing for his demise and made sure he was getting everything he needed. It broke our hearts to see him live with dementia – something we just learned that dogs get, too. Jordan was a highly active and high-spirited dog, but with dementia, his daily activities changed tremendously. Even in his old age, he still tried to do some of the things he did when he was younger, such as walk on his two back hind legs, and catch food in his mouth. He was determined not to let old age defeat him. It broke our hearts the night he left us, but we knew it was time to say goodbye and that he was ready to cross the Rainbow Bridge. We are so thankful to Jordan for the 17 years of love, joy, and happiness he brought to our lives. Though he is no longer with us in the flesh, he will never be forgotten and will forever remain in our hearts.
