About Spud

Remembering Spud

Spud was more than a dog, she was around to show us we could care for others more than we thought we could.

She loved hiking laying in the sun, and would stay in on a rainy day hating to get her paws wet.

If she wanted to be pet and you ignored her she would sit on the corner like a little kid and look over her shoulder out of the corner of her eye at you until you gave in.

To this very day I still believe strongly that she was around to help my brother most of all. Where most dogs are adopted, I think she adopted him getting him ready for a family life.

She moved with him to our Long Island, a brief stint in Orange County, New York, and finally a little town right off the Hudson called Hamburg.

Q and A

Where did you get her?
She found my older brother on a coast guard base on the Mississippi, down in Kentucky.

Why did you decide to get a pet? And why her in particular?
She picked him, and when he was changing bases he was told pretty much that no one else would care for her as much as he did so,... she became a part of our family.

What was she like? Describe her personality.
Part toddler, part cat and all love.

Was she adopted, found, adopted or bought?
She found my brother.

Did she have pet siblings or other animals that she bonded with?
Gertie (another lab that has found her own family), and Tiki (a pitbull that is still caring for my brother and his family).
